The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honour women executives, entrepreneurs, and the companies they run ‘ worldwide. The Stevie Awards have been hailed as the world’s premier business awards. Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word ‘crowned,’ winners will be announced during a gala event at the Marriott Marquis hotel in New York on Friday, November 13. More than 1,100 entries were submitted this year for consideration in 54 categories, including Best Executive, Best Entrepreneur, and Best Community Involvement Program. Elena Gosse is a finalist in the Lifetime Achievement and Most Innovative Company categories. As the middle of three children in a middle class Russian family, Elena was never content being a follower – She wanted to exceed and lead. In her early years she was described as ambitious, however today Elena describes it as sheer determination and had the conviction to make things happen. As a child, she was convinced that one day she would be famous, so much so that she told her math teacher that her aspirations did not include excelling in math as her ambition to be an actress did not require such skills. Upon reflection, Elena recognises the irony in that statement because as the Executive Director of a successful manufacturing company, she now knows the importance of financial management. ‘As you might imagine I’m thrilled to be a finalist for the Stevie Lifetime Achievement Award, Elena said. ‘But, even more than this, I am excited by the opportunities being a contender has opened up. In putting my submission together I’ve been reminded of the difficulties I faced as a woman and a mother, in progressing through my career. I know that similar barriers still face many women today’ According to Elena, her greatest achievements to date are her two beautiful daughters who’ve been her inspiration in life. She already considers herself a winner. Her eldest daughter, Valeria, is set to launch her own business, and youngest daughter, Julia, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy, is proving everyone wrong by living her life to the fullest, enjoying working, driving a car, competing in disabled swimming and getting married in October this year. Finalists were chosen by business professionals worldwide during preliminary judging. Members of the Awards’ Board of Distinguished Judges & Advisors and their staffs will select Stevie Award winners from among the Finalists during final judging.
